And So We Begin Again: Mosaic 57 Submissions Are Open!

Howdy, everyone!

It’s that time of the year when Mosaic is once again open for submissions. For anyone still waiting on Mosaic 56, no need to worry—our staff will be putting together the final edits and sending out copies first thing when we reconvene in the fall. And it’s looking like quite the fantastic volume. Here’s hoping we can surpass it with this year’s submissions!

So, short stories, screenplays, poems, prose poems, photographs, sketches, paintings, digital media, some strange chant you found in the back of a book in the attic, or any kind of art or literature we can print on paper—send them our way! I know I speak for everyone when I say that we are excited to see what all of you have been working on.

Hoping to hear from you soon,

Stephanie (& the rest of the Mosaic team)

Mosaic Editor Applications

Greetings, friends!

The time is approaching for us to begin looking for Mosaic staff members for the 2017-18 year. If you will be a UCR student in the coming year, and you are interested in gaining experience in writing and editing, please submit an application to be a part of the Mosaic team!

As an editor, either of prose, poetry, or artwork, responsibilities include, but are not necessarily limited to:

  • Reading and analyzing all submissions to the journal in a specific genre
  • Attending weekly meetings to discuss and make decisions about these submissions
  • Line editing works of poetry and fiction
  • Participating in arts outreach events through the Gluck Fellows Program of the Arts

We encourage you to apply, but remember that this is a commitment of time and effort, and you must be willing to put in both the time and the effort to be a part of the Mosaic team. That said, it’s also a tremendous amount of fun, and not only does it look great on a resume, but it’s a great way to participate in UCR’s community of writers!

Editors are eligible to submit to the magazine, but are not guaranteed publication.

We have up to 3 spots open on the prose team, and up to 4 on the poetry team. If you are interested in being in charge of the visual art for Mosaic 57, feel free to submit an application as well!

Remember, the application includes a writing/art sample! Send us your best work!

If you have any questions, or if you just want more information and would like to set up a meeting with one of our current editors, feel free to email us at ucr.mosaic@gmail.com.

The deadline to apply is May 19th, at 11:59 pm.

Where is Mosaic 55? and Other News

Hello everybody!

If you’ve been wondering where we went, never fear: we’re still around, better than ever, and with a whole lot of good news.

Mosaic 55 has finally been printed! It’s in our hands and boy does it look beautiful. We’re in the process of sending those out to all our contributors, so if you had a piece published in that issue, don’t worry: it’ll be there soon.

We also have a few exciting events coming up! Starting in March, we have two back-to-back Open Mic events: First, on March 3rd at 6:00pm, we’ll be hosting an Open Mic at Back to the Grind in downtown Riverside in coordination with Audeamus, the UCR Honors Journal. Second, on March 10th at 6:00pm, we’ll be at Jafang Pizza. Both of these events are sure to be awesome, and remember, they’re both great places to eat, so make sure you support them by purchasing their delicious food and beverages!

Most importantly, submissions for Mosaic 56 are closing in one week, on February 28th. There’s still time to send in your poetry, prose, or artwork, so please do, because we would be absolutely ecstatic to read it!

That’s all for now, but look forward to more updates. We hope to see you at our events, and we hope to see your writing gracing the pages of our journal.
